How to Trim Your Beard

In the video below, Jack shows you how to trim your beard using clippers. With this method, you should be able to trim and shape your beard in no more than 20-30 minutes with some practice.

After getting the desired shape and length at the bottom of the beard, he moves on to trim the sides and sideburns of his beard. Here the main focus is on cutting hairs that tend to stick out longer than others and just give your beard a generally clean, well-kept shape. The sideburns should fade into the side of your hair cut nicely, which can be easily achieved by setting a gradient with your beard comb and running clippers along the top edge of the comb.

The way that I approach this beard trim is by setting the length and shape of the bottom of the beard first using straight passes along the bottom of the beard line. Once the length is where I want it and I set the shape of the bottom of the beard, I move on to help round out the bottom edge of my beard and give it a nice natural shape.

How to Trim Your Mustache

Trimming your mustache is super simple and can be done using a variety of methods. In this video Jack uses his trimmers to shape up the lower edge of his mustache on the lip, blend the longer sides into the beard, and shape up the corners of his mustache. This step can be done in only a few minutes, but the video below shows some extra tips and tricks you might want to bring along the way.

How to Line up Your Beard

Lining up your beard is hands down the quickest and easiest way to make even the messiest of beard look clean and intentional. If you know how to trim your beard and you do a good job, look at the line-up as the final polishing step that will bring your beard trim from a 90 to a 100. When you line up your beard, you’re showing that the growth that is there is intended to be there and you are taking care of your beard. Cleaning up the hairs on the front of the neck and extra beard hairs on the cheeks will take your beard from”this guy hasn’t shaved in a while” to “oh nice, you’re growing a beard!” Huge difference.

Watch the video below to learn how to line up your beard in just a few minutes each week. I recommend using a straight razor, but in the video below I show you multiple ways you can do so.

How to Trim with Scissors

The video below is hands down our most popular video on our channel, thanks to COVID-19. If you’re looking for a full tutorial of how to trim your beard with scissors and a comb, this is the guide for you. Trimming your beard with scissors takes a bit longer and is not the best way to shape your beard but it can absolutely be done in a way that helps clean up your beard and makes it look really nice.
